The Giver- My opinion about the book

Book: The Giver
Author: Lois Lowry
My opinion about the book
Date: 13/1/2012
The book at the beginning it is not really interesting because the author doesn’t give enough information about the year and the place so it is a little bit confusing and a little bit mysterious. Although I like mysteries, this is a different kind because you don’t know in what time of period it is and it has so many modern but also old things that you get confused. Also they leave in a place that they have no weather, they don’t have emotions and feelings and they have so many laws that you must obey but if they seem so not important to us. Another thing is that they can’t see color, thing that I didn’t expect at the beginning.
The beginning of the book made me appreciate all the things we have such as televisions, phones, weather, colors, not that strict rules and we don’t have to work from the age of 12. Also we have our own parents and siblings and we can have as many sisters and brothers and none will tell us anything, we actually know our relatives (grandpa, grandma) and we don’t leave in a world full of lies.
At the middle of the book, we find out at the ceremony of twelve’s that Jonas was chosen/selected to be the Receiver of Memories, I didn’t know at the beginning what that meant because it hasn’t been mentioned at the previous chapters, and it was interesting to read what it actually was.  Then he starts his work and the rules that he have are much different that the other’s job. The fact that he can actually lie now and before was not aloud it was very strange for him but also for the reader that he couldn’t apply for release (that it is actually death) and he can’t take medicines or something to help his pain when it was caused during his work.
At the last part, Jonas wanted to escape and he did but he also took Gabe because the following day she would be released. The first few days planes were searching for him but he was hiding and he transferred memories of cold to Gabe (really weird since a few people have this honor of receiving memories) so he couldn’t be seen in the radars of the planes that found people with the heat of their body. At last I really wanted to know if they finally made it to go to Elsewhere but the author stopped it a little bit suddenly so I really want to know the ending.
At last but not least, I really liked the book from when I read after the middle and I would definitely suggest it at people to read it!
